Renault have increased their investment into their Formula One team, less than a year after returning to the sport as a constructor.
Originally billed as a rebuilding year, Renault had set their sights on challenging for titles by 2020 but has now decided to bring that goal forward.
"Talking about investment, the one thing we are doing is bringing forward our plans and increasing the total package," Renault Sport F1's managing director Cyril Abiteboul told Autosport. "We had put together a five-year plan, with an investment package, but a couple of weeks ago we had approval to increase that package and bring it forward."
It in it's previous guise as Lotus, the team struggled financially for a number of years but with Renault's increased involvement, allied to rumours of big name sponsorships from Movistar and BBVA, Renault could once again become one of the wealthiest teams on the grid.
The French marque's increased investment in their team comes after a dismal return as a fully-fledged constructor for the first time since the end of 2009 when they sold the team to Genii Capital.

Its not that bad of a return if you consider the circumstances. They have a chassis built for a completely different engine and never had the downforce needed to compensate for a slower unit. Now they are already quite convincingly past Sauber and compete with an impressive Manor. Next year can get interesting if they play their cards well.
