Back in blue for Renault next year?

Renault could ditch their striking yellow livery next season and return to blue colours.

Spanish sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, as well as Germany's Auto Bild, and Auto Hebdo in France are reporting that the team is in talks with Spanish firms Movistar, a mobile phone network, and the multinational bank BBVA - both feature a predominantly blue corporate image.

The reports could reignite rumours that the team are chasing Carlos Sainz, despite the Spaniard being confirmed at Toro Rosso for 2017.

However, the Movistar link does conflict with talk of signing Sergio Perez, whose backer Carlos Slim owns Telmex, a direct competitor to Movistar.

Renault's Formula E team currently competes in cars painted in the yellow of Renault and the blue of DAMS, who run the team. There hasn't been a blue Renault F1 car since the beginning of 2007 when Giancarlo Fisichella, Heikki Kovalainen, and Nelson Piquet Jr. ran an R27 in an interim blue livery.

The team last raced a blue car in their title winning 2005 and 2006 seasons, with cigarette company Mild Seven as their primary sponsor.

  • That'd be a bad idea. We currently have 3 teams with blue dominating in their livery, And Williams and Manor have blue in theirs aswell. I like this livery, so IMO they should stick with it.
