McLaren cooperation with Honda closer than ever - Eric Boullier

After a difficult start to their cooperation in 2015, both McLaren and Honda are happy with how things are going. Both sides say the cooperation even doing better than ever.

The results of McLaren this season are not great with a seventh place in the constructors, but the team has made great progress. Both McLaren's Eric Boullier and Honda's Yusuke Hasegawa are optimistic about the future.

Boullier shares his reaction with Crash.net, taking an indirect swipe at former Honda chief Yasuhisa Arai, saying: "We are now working with Yasuke Hasegawa, and since then the partnership is stronger than ever."

"We meet regularly face-to-face, although there are also digital opportunities to work together. The project itself is becoming more mature so I think everything for now is fine. "

Hasegawa is with Boullier even though he does not want to make too many comments on his predecessor Arai.

"I do not know exactly how it was last year, but this year is the collaboration with McLaren excellent and I think we move forward together," he said. "That's a good sign."

Seventh for Fernando Alonso at the Hungaroring was a flattering result, according to Boullier. There are some circuits that the MP4-31 may not be as good at, such as Spa and Monza, but Boullier insists that the team hasn't finished work on this year's car.

"The amount of work and effort we put into it at the moment is more than 100 percent. We are working on the car this year and the next year. I can not say what percentage is already working on the new car, but after the summer break will go to 100 percent."

Honda has also been hard at work for 2017. Next year may be used there only four engines per car, so Honda is busy to work with the latest version of the engine.

"We have already started the engine for 2017, but also those to be developed this year. It is difficult to determine how to divide our manpower for this, so I can not call rates. We do both now."
