Various sources have confirmed to F1Today.net that 16-year-old Max Verstappen will make his debut in a Formula 1 car at the Rockingham Circuit in Northamptonshire later today.
The young Dutchman was announced as part of the Red Bull programme in July and last week an announcement was made stating that Verstappen would drive for Toro Rosso in the 2015 Formula 1 season, a move seen by some as inspired due to his impressive debut season in the European F3 Championship which has included a streak of seven wins.
Although he will be 17 when the Formula 1 season starts, Verstappen is yet obtain an FIA Superlicense which requires drivers to complete 300km of testing behind the wheel of a modern Formula 1 car and as such, a test has been organised by the Red Bull team to allow the Belgian-born driver to gain experience in the cockpit driving an older Red Bull car.
The son of ex-F1 driver, Jos, has raced in karts since the age of 7 and only progressed to single-seater formulae in late 2012 after testing a Formula Renault 2.0 car, prepared by the Dutch Manor MP Motorsport outfit. At another test in Jerez later in the year, Max went almost a second faster than other proven drivers such as Eddie Cheever III.
Also revealed was that Max would drive a Formula 1 car at the VKV City Racing event in Rotterdam on both Friday and Sunday.
