Lewis Hamilton is enduring a difficult season in his first year with Ferrari. The British driver has struggled for form and endured his share of bad luck. After describing his year in Brazil as a “nightmare,” Hamilton made it clear that he has no plans to retire, dismissing speculation about his future as pure fiction.
Hamilton made the high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari last winter, fulfilling a long-held dream to drive for the Scuderia. He hoped the move would reignite his fight for victories, and an early sprint race win in China appeared to point in that direction. However, his season soon unravelled, and he is yet to stand on the podium in Ferrari colours.
Uncertain Times for Hamilton
Hamilton’s poor run of results has sparked widespread rumours about his future. Some reports have suggested that Ferrari might not extend his contract beyond 2026. For now, the Briton remains committed to the team for next season, but beyond that, nothing has been confirmed. What most observers agree on is that Hamilton’s performance this year has fallen well below expectations.
Hamilton Stays Focused
In Brazil, Hamilton was firm when asked about his future. Speaking to ESPN, he said that the stories surrounding his contract “make no sense.” When questioned about whether talks for a new deal had started, he replied: “I have quite a long contract.”
Negotiations for an extension have not begun. “Normally, if you have a contract, discussions start about a year before it ends. I’m still a long way from that point,” Hamilton explained.
Championship Standings
The Brazilian Grand Prix was another race to forget for Hamilton. He was hit by Carlos Sainz at the start, damaged his front wing while battling Franco Colapinto, and later suffered floor damage that forced him to retire. Hamilton now sits sixth in the world championship with 148 points, hoping to turn things around before the season ends.
