Magnussen: Haas clearly best of the rest

Kevin Magnussen says that this years car is "pretty good" and that he is very happy with the teams starting point for the season. Haas managed 6th and 7th in qualifying and Magnussen described his Q3 lap as s**t.

Magnussen will start behind his teammate Romain Grosjean and praised the team for the VF-19. He commented that all the team's cars seem stronger than last year and then added that it seems crazy that there are cars faster than the Haas.

The Dane was critical of his qualifying efforts saying: "It was a s**t lap, I didn't get at all out of it what I should have." He had made an error in Q1 and had to use a second set of Soft tyres to get through to Q2 which left him with just one set for Q3.

This meant that he only had one chance at posting a quick time and his attempt was compromised by a mistake at Turn 6. Magnussen braked too late and was only just able to turn in and make the corner. He estimates that he lost a couple of tenths in that single incident.

Speaking about the car Magnussen said: "Over the winter it's been a big challenge with these new regulations. It's incredible that the team is able to keep it up and be as competitive as we are today."

When Magnussen was asked if he thought that Haas was quickest of the midfield teams he replied: "Well clearly, I think. When you have two or three tenths in this midfield that is a big gap. It's not like we have a second to the next guys but today the car had three tenths, four tenths down to the next one."

"Very satisfied with the start to the season. We've been hopeful of our potential but no matter what, it's always a nerve-racking time because you think you know where you are but then you want to go and prove it on track. But today we did and we looked good."
