Pirelli has announced what tyre compounds teams will be allowed to choose from for the Grands Prix of Belgium and Japan. Following a recurring trend, Pirelli will go one compound softer than the 2016 choices.
When Formula 1 returns from the summer break in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps, Pirelli will be bringing the soft, super soft and ultra soft to the race. The tyres this year are much more durable, meaning the ultra soft tyre can seemingly hold up around Spa - F1's longest circuit.

In Japan, we will see the medium, soft and super soft being used. With that announcement is the all but confirmed situation where the hard tyre has been scrapped. Pirelli brought the orange-walled hard tyre to Spain, where it was placed under criticism for its uselessness.
Pirelli has also nominated the ultra soft compound in Belgium and the super soft compound in Japan as the tyre of use for those who make it into the final part of qualifying. Teams are free to choose the remaining 10 sets of tyres, to complete their 13-set allocation.
