Palmer: "I don't know where to search to find pace"

Renault's Jolyon Palmer admits that he does not know how to improve himself in the coming races. Palmer has been noticeably behind pace-wise to teammate Nico Hulkenberg. In qualifying, the stats stand at 7-0 in favour of Hulkenberg.

Palmer is competing in his second year of Formula 1. Rumours swirled last year about his future, but he was retained by the French manufacturer as Kevin Magnussen left for Haas. Once again, his F1 career is in doubt as the likes of Sergey Sirotkin and and Robert Kubica wait in the sidelines.

More worrying is that the Brit does not know where to search:"I have no explanation for why I was nine tenths slower than Nico [Hulkenberg] in Q2 for example," he said. "I do not think I left much. It's the fine details that make the difference. Nico is doing just fine, he's very fast. But I have to focus completely on myself."

"I drive as hard as possible at all times. What happens on the other side of the garage, is irrelevant. Nico delivers good job, it's undeniable. He is extremely fast, especially in qualifying. It's up to me to reduce the gap in the coming weeks and months. How do I do that? I don't know."

  • Perhaps some setting issues you have to take over from the Hulk??
Otherwise, Jolyon is ot the talent he was supposed to be. Wouldn't be the first one to fall through in F1.

    • Hulkenberg is very helpful when it comes to the data he collects. If he had a setting Palmer could rock, he would've had it already.

  • I hope he gets it together. This is the worst performance for a GP2 champion I can remember. He was outstanding in GP2 , so clearly there is talent somewhere. Perhaps the new cars reduced the correlation to GP2?
