Hamilton unsure about partnering Alonso

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that past experiences with Fernando Alonso could prevent the two from ever becoming teammates again. Hamilton and Alonso were both McLaren drivers in 2007 and clashed horribly, causing Alonso to leave after just a single season.

Hamilton described the relationship between the two that year as toxic and says that he does not want to put a team through that again, especially now as they are both defined world champions.

"It's not just about me, but the hundreds of people working in the team, Hamilton said. "My relationship with Fernando was toxic and it intoxicated the whole team. So yes it was personal. There are people with whom you get along and others who you cannot coexist with in any way. If you put two world champions in the same team, each will try to do his best and neither will give way on a single corner. There is too much friction."

Hamilton, who raced at McLaren for six seasons, hopes that the team can sort out their problems with Honda. McLaren is slacking at the rear of the field due to the low power output and unreliability of their Honda engines.

"Formula 1 is a show and there are very few drivers who are able to make it that show," said Hamilton. "There's Alonso, Vettel, myself ... So I hope they (McLaren) can solve the problems he is having with his team."

  • Can't see it happening, would love to see them fight each other for a championship again. I think Vettel vs Hamilton vs Alonso would be one of the greatest battles of all time

    • Yeah, it wont happen. Hamilton has marked Mercedes as his territory, he wont let a driver like Alonso in. He had problems as it were against Rosberg, a not very territorial driver. Imagine what it would be like to have Alonso and Hamilton in the same team, and a race winning team at that. Would be an absolute nightmare for both drivers and the rest of the team.

  • Would love to see it but sadly Toto and Lewis would rather have a #2 driver like Bottas to let him past.. shame
