The Ferrari SF70-H got its first taste of the track at Fiorano immediately after its launch on Friday morning, and Kimi Raikkonen was the first man to get behind the wheel of the car. Following its very first laps, the Finn reported that his first impressions of the scarlet machine were good, as did his team-mate Sebastian Vettel later in the day - but there is, of course, still work to do.
"It was just a first touch and the main work starts in Barcelona, but so far so good," said Raikkonen after emerging from the driver's seat. "It feels pretty similar to last year. There were a few changes, but not an awful lot."
After taking over in the afternoon, Vettel was able to comment somewhat more positively on the performance of the car, believing it to be an improvement on Ferrari's 2016 challenger. "You can see it is a step forward and you can feel it is a step forward," he stated. "It is fun to drive. The car looks big and strong."
The German was also relieved that the team did not experience any major reliability issues with the SF70-H, something which will surely put his mind at ease as the Scuderia look to take the fight to their rivals in 2017. "Today we didn't have any problems. And the first impression is the right one. It was good and a good start."
