A leading Danish motor racing official has said he thinks Kevin Magnussen's social media denial of an IndyCar deal is a strategic move.
The Renault driver took to Twitter to dismiss speculation linking him with a move to Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar series, Bo Baltzer Nielsen, a Danish automobile union official thinks there could be more to the messages than meets the eye.
"I can imagine it was to tell the world that he has more options, and that he is pushing to have a Renault's decision," he told the Danish newspaper BT.
Commentator Jens Hansen agreed, saying: "The timing is surprising because it simultaneously shows optimism but also impatience."
He also added that even if Renault do choose to drop the former McLaren driver, he could be handed an F1 lifeline by Force India, Williams or Haas.
"The future is to some extent unclear at all four teams," said Hansen. "And Kevin has a good name with the team bosses at all of them."
