Renault technical chief Bob Bell has said that people are underestimating the challenge faced by Renault to rebuild after their takeover of the team earlier this year.
The team, formerly-known as Lotus was bought back from Genii Capital after the French manufacturer initially sold the team following the 2009 season.
But despite the huge resources and money they now have behind them, Bell says people don't understand just how much work they are having to do.
"I don't think perhaps from the outside people realise how run down the Enstone squad had become in the last couple of years, so there's a lot to do," said Bell. "As well as the process of rebuilding the team of course we had to build a car for this year and start work on an even better one for next year, which wouldn't be terribly hard."
"It's been a challenge, it continues to be so, but there's a very strong spirit in Enstone," he added. "Anybody who knows the place will testify to and we're certainly up to the challenge."
The team has a long history in Formula One, beginning life as Toleman, before becoming Benetton. It was purchased by Renault and was renames after the marque in 2002, before they withdrew their support just before the 2010 season. A few years under the name Lotus followed before Renault returned at the start of this season
