Felipe Massa has revealed his manager Nicolas Todt held talks with both Renault and Haas before he made the decision to retire.
The former Ferrari driver revealed his decision to walk away from the sport at the Italian Grand Prix, although he has since admitted that he has aimed to stay in Formula One after it became clear that Williams would not be retaining his services for 2017.
"The market had a small influence, but it was small," Massa told UOL Esporte. "I didn't know what was happening in the market. Nicolas (Todt) talked a bit with Renault and had some contact with Haas.
"Of course I had a sense of the market, but it had a very small influence," he added. "What was strongest was the decision that arose within me."
