Contract extension for Nico Rosberg does not surprise Pascal Wehrlein

Pascal Wehrlein has said that he is not surprised that Mercedes opted to re-sign Nico Rosberg.

Wehrlein has been supported by Mercedes for many years and the current Manor driver would be the first candidate to replace Rosberg if he were to leave Mercedes.

"It was assumed that his contract would be renewed. It means I have a bit more time to get used to F1," he said.

The Manor racer's immediate future in Formula One is wide open, with moves to Mercedes and customer team Force India being speculated.

My future is still totally open," Wehrlein insists. "I have a one year contract with Manor and I don't know yet what I will do next year. I think the first talks will take place after the summer break."
