Honda could work during August shutdown

Honda have hinted that they may continue working during the scheduled factory shutdown in August.

Each summer, teams must close their factories to give staff time off and to cut down on costs.

However, as a supplier, Honda would not be subject to the same restrictions meaning that they could continue to work during the period between the German and Belgian Grands Prix.

"We plan to do a certain amount of work in August, but we still have to double-check with the regulations," said Honda's F1 chief Yusuke Hasegawa.

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier admitted that he was hoping that Honda would continue to work during the summer shutdown, even suggesting it could give Honda an advantage over other engine suppliers Renault and Honda.

"I think all the departments relating to the development of the chassis must obey these rules," he said at the British Grand Prix.

"As for Honda, I hope they will continue to work in August," he added. "The situation at Renault and Ferrari may be different, because their teams are organised in a different way."

  • It is very beneficial if Honda get an advantage over Honda, indeed it is vital for them. I admire Honda's efforts to improve the situation.
