Magnussen hoping to extend Renault stay

Kevin Magnussen is hoping to remain with Renault beyond the 2016 season.

The Dane replaced Pastor Maldonado at the Anglo-French team at the start of the year after being deemed surplus to requirements at former team McLaren.

Magnussen signed a one year deal with the team, but has an option for next year. He has said that he hopes contract negotiations will commence soon.

"I hope it (the negotiations) doesn't get too late in the season. I hate that," he told the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. "Hopefully it will be as soon as possible that we can begin to talk."

"In the end it's not up to me," he added. "I am very happy to be here and would like to stay a part of the project. I can't say any more than that."
