Fernando Alonso is already in Shanghai as he bids to return to F1 action this weekend. On social media, the Spaniard has posted several messages from the sprawling Chinese city, including a cartoon depicting him frantically exercising amid the backdrop of his McLaren-Honda.

But whether FIA doctors will give him the green light on Thursday, or usher Stoffel Vandoorne back into Alonso's cockpit, is not clear. AS newspaper, a well-connected Spanish sports daily, said the 34-year-old has improved since Bahrain but still has a broken ninth rib.

Ron Dennis will probably go to the FIA again and say he is sure Alonso is able to drive. I would rather put Vandoorne in the car again, as his race was very solid in Bahrain and also very reliable!

I agree, better to let Alonso rest and heal completely.

Not sure exactly what defines if he is fit to race or not but surely he needs to be able to get out of the car within a certain time limit.
Even when they give him the green light, it will still hurt like hell so why not play it safe and let Vandoorne drive.
Else they better mix some good painkillers in Alonso his drinking bottle ;-)

With all due respect to Fernando, Media kept using the term "Broken rib Alonso", and i may forget his firstname soon.
