Sauber improves Environmental Result in 2014

Environmental protection is of great importance to Sauber Motorsport AG, as the 2014 Environmental Report shows. "We are delighted that we were able to achieve our goals and generally improve our performance as part of the Environmental Management. Environmental protection is an important area for which we are pleased to take responsibility, and it is our aim to continually make progress", explained CEO Monisha Kaltenborn.

Data from Environmental Controlling shows that last year Sauber Motorsport AG was able to improve its Environmental Result in essential areas compared to 2013. Thus, energy consumption was reduced again. Absolute electric power consumption declined by 12.6 percent along with the absolute water consumption, which was even cut by 33 percent in 2014. The need for heating energy was about 13.3 percent lower than in the reporting year.

Furthermore, the company has worked since 2011 on being carbon-neutral. Sauber Motorsport AG has compensated for the greenhouse emissions produced in 2014 by 110 per cent. This additionally provides the company with a sufficient safety margin. In January 2015 carbon-connect AG became a partner of Sauber Motorsport AG. With assistance from this partner, greenhouse gases are initially calculated and subsequently neutralised accordingly.

The energy consumption of Sauber Motorsport AG reflects a very high share of renewable energy. The reason is that over 60 per cent of the electricity is generated by hydropower. In addition, local heat supplied by the neighbouring Zürcher Oberland waste incineration plant is utilised. The solar power plant constructed by our partner Oerlikon, that was launched in 2012, produced 175,520 KWh of electricity in the reporting year, roughly equating to the annual power requirement of 49 households.
