Frijns to land Caterham drive?

Dutchman Robin Frijns is set to become Caterham's Third Driver in 2014, according to a Dutch source. The deal would see him drive the car a total of sixteen times throughout the season; eight on Friday's and another eight in official FIA testing sessions.

The 24 year-old will test drive the new Caterham CT04 later this month in the first pre-season test at Jerez, the source states. He will also be present in Bahrain for the final test before the season commences in Australia.

Frijns, the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 series champion was previously the reserve driver for Sauber in 2013 before parting with the Swiss outfit at the seasons end, prompting the signing of the Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin to replace him.

F1Today.net has been in contact with Tom Webb, the Head of Communications at Caterham who only revealed that their "driver line-up will be announced in due course". However, Kamui Kobayashi, Marcus Ericcson and Giedo van der Garde are all thought to be in contention for a race seat this season.
