McLaren would loan Norris to rival team

Zak Brown says he would loan Lando Norris to another formula one team for experience.

Recently, Formula 2 championship leader Norris - a McLaren junior driver - was linked with a mid-season move to Toro Rosso to replace struggling Brendon Hartley.

The rumour was played down, but McLaren executive Brown said that in theory, he would let Norris go.

"We would like him to get experience somewhere," he confirmed.

"Lando is a McLaren driver and we think he has a bright future here, but if an opportunity came elsewhere we would seriously consider it. But we have got no interest in letting Lando go anywhere long term," Brown added.

  • That is rich coming from a customer team. Norris looks good, but most of the teams interested in drivers that arent true pay drivers already have a queue of their own drivers which they are trying to get into F1. I only see one way into F1 for him, and thats McLaren themselves.

    • I get your point. But I'd argue that other than Mercedes' George Russell, there is no other young driver (outside of F1) that any team is trying to bring to F1. Look at Red Bull having to bring Hartley and when talking about replacing him, the list includes only non- RB drivers. Lando Norris might not end up being a superstar in F1, but on paper he is the closest thing we've had in a while to Nico Rosberg, Lewis, Hulkenberg. By that I mean guys that won in every category they raced in.

    • Fair point, the qeue has thinned a lot, but I still think there is one. Remember, Mercedes havent given up on Wehrlein just now, and Renault have a fair share of drivers they were just now looking to put in seats among their customers. Not sure what the situation is at Ferrari's camp. But RB's well is a bit dry at the moment, for sure.

Wehrlein had his chance. Can't say I miss him.
