Kvyat: "I have very cool memories from Hungary"

Daniil Kvyat is looking forward to returning to the Hungaroring, the scene of his first ever podium in Formula 1. In 2015, his maiden year racing for Red Bull, Kvyat claimed his one and only podium of the season around the tight circuit just outside Budapest.

It was also Red Bull's first podium of the year, with Kvyat's teammate Daniel Ricciardo finishing in third. The team would only score one further podium that year, finishing fourth in the constructor standings behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Williams.

"In Hungary, I scored the first ever podium of my F1 career," stated Kvyat. "I have very cool memories from that race weekend and it's always good to go back there. The track is a very interesting and challenging one. It's very narrow; I describe it like a 'Monaco without walls'. You have to get everything right and hopefully, we will have a clean race there. It's very difficult to overtake in Hungary, so it's important to have a good qualifying."

Championship standings after 10 rounds

     Mercedes            383        Mercedes               330
     Ferrari            236        Ferrari               275
     Williams            151        Red Bull               174
Red Bull             96        Force India                95

Kvyat said that the weekend is going very hot, so drinking water and staying hydrated to keep up concentration levels during the race will be a key factor. The Russian also praised the Hungarian fans, who he claims are very passionate about Formula 1.

"The fans are very passionate there, it's great to see. The signing sessions are always fully-packed with people cheering us on and this is something very special to see. It's one of the highlights of the weekend, definitely!

"It's usually quite hot there, so we need to drink a lot of water throughout the weekend and it's something my physio reminds me about all the time at races like this one! Budapest is a very nice city. I've been there many times – there's a lot to see, it's good fun and one I definitely recommend to family and friends to visit."

  • Was a great race.. Interesting table there, showing how poor Red Bull were in 2015

  • Kvyat has been treated a bit unfairly, yes he was a bit lucky against Ricciardo but no common Joe beats a driver like ricciardo over a season, I mean 4 time world champ vettel couldn't
