Vettel: "Ferrari can improve in qualifying"

Heading to the British Grand Prix this weekend, Sebastian Vettel has revealed that Ferrari can improve its performance in qualifying. So far this season, the four time champion has secured one pole position at the Russian Grand Prix along with six other front row starts while fourth position remains as his lowest starting position at Baku.

Talking about Silverstone, Vettel revealed  that "It should be a good track for us," when talking to Germany's  RTL. "Silverstone is full of fast corners. I think we can improve a bit in qualifying," he added. "Mercedes seem to be able to pull out a bit more performance than us."

Heading to the British Grand Prix this weekend, Vettel leads the Drivers' Championship by 20 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton who is his nearest rival on the grid. The round at Silverstone marks the tenth race of the 2017, and the half-way point of the current season of competition.

Mercedes qualifying pace seems to come at the expense of cooking the tires a little bit during the race. And if that's the tradeoff, then I'd prefer good race pace.

wondering what he means?! Cornering speed or turning up the engine power.. I´m looking forward to seeing those engine upgrades at Siverstone..

    • I'd argue that their tactic has paid off so far because it still seems like in 2017 track position is key if your straight-line speed advantage isn't that much pronounced versus your immediate competitor. DRS can only do so much in a battle between Ferrari and Merc on fresh tyres of the same compounds. Good race pace has not netted Ferrari a lot of win they shou;d have had by now. Vettel is just too damn good despite all that producing the results he has so far, if Ferrari had Merc's quali pace the FIA might as well give the WDC trophy to Vettel right now, it's a no contest.

  • Mercedes benefit greatly from their extra power during qualy, something Ferrari hasnt been able to replicate so far. The fast corners should indeed benefit Ferrari more, so this could be their weekend.
