Broadcaster says F1 is humming once again

The sporting boss of the German free-to-air television broadcaster RTL Manfred Loppe believes that F1 is humming again, following the period from 2014 to 2016 that saw many fans criticise the direction of the sport.

The 2017 regulations have meant there is a Mercedes vs Ferrari battle for both championships this year. Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel sit atop the standings, with a recent survey showing that the fans are happy about the direction of the sport.

"This new formula one is humming!" said Loppe. "And it's not only on the track, where the new rules are grabbing the audience, but also next to the track. Now there is more transparency, the spectators are getting closer," he added, referring to changes made since Liberty Media took over the sport.
