Renault's Jolyon Palmer is ready to kick his career back into gear after struggling over the first five races of the 2017 season. The Brit has failed to match teammate Nico Hulkenberg in both qualifying and the race, leaving the 2012 GP2 champions future in doubt.
However, arriving in Monaco, he says he is happy and is ready for a strong weekend. Palmer knows he's underperforming and will attempt to do all he can to rectify his current troubles.
“It’s been disappointing, but also I’ve had more issues than this time last year, last year generally the performance [deficit] was a lot more in myself I think.
“This year there’s performance [to find] in myself but we’ve also lost a lot of track time in most Grands Prix in practice sessions, we’ve had other external issues that I didn’t have so much this time last year.
“I’m disappointed with how it’s gone but I’m ready to turn it around and I think I’m not that far away from putting it together and then get [into] a bit of positive and into a cycle and then kick on like last year.”
So far, Palmer only has one championship point to his name which came last year at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Last year at Monaco, the Brit DNF'd when his car lost control in very difficult conditions.
