Massa thinks Alonso will at least see out his McLaren contract

Felipe Massa doesn't think that his former teammate Fernando Alonso will quit McLaren early, despite the clear and current state of unhappiness Alonso is in. The 35-year-old has made no secret of his displeasure for the 2017 McLaren, which he claims is the slowest car on the grid.

There have been suggestions that the Spaniard could quit the team before the season ends, but Massa believes that Alonso will at least see out his contract.

"I think the first thing to understand is that he has a contract," Massa said. "If he leaves now, he'll be stuck until next year, and for what? He has a huge contract, so he will stay there and fulfil it - although it's true that anything can happen. If he's thinking of moving to a competitive team, that's not for this year. Stop in the middle? I don't think so, but as I said, nothing is impossible."

Alonso joined McLaren in 2015 after five years at Ferrari and went on the hunt for his third world title. However, he has come nowhere close to achieving it in the McLaren-Honda, which has been playing catch up with the field since Honda started supplying power units to the Woking based team.

With Valtteri Bottas only on a one-year deal with Mercedes, Alonso has already been linked to a seat at the Silver Arrows which has dominated the sport over the last three seasons.
