Daniel Ricciardo: "I’d love to be on the podium"

Australia has produced a string of talented drivers, and even a couple of world champions, however an Aussie has never once finished on the podium at their home Grand Prix.

Despiting crossing the line second on his Red Bull debut in 2014, Daniel Ricciardo was later disqualified due to a fuel flow infringement. With Red Bull hoping to take a title challenge to Mercedes in 2017, Ricciardo says he is aiming for a podium next weekend to give the home fans a cheer.

"I think anything’s possible, for many reasons, because we still haven’t seen the true pace of all us top teams – and it’s Melbourne, it’s the first race of the year,” he said to Inside Line. "The weather could throw a curve ball at us. Even the run to Turn 1, [at the] first race, we haven’t raced in I think it will be about four months by then.

"Anyway it’s a long time so I think for me personally I just get there prepared, it will be a busy week with media and all the hype and all that.

“I’ll just do what I gotta do, I feel I’ve handled it well the last few years. I’d love to be on the podium, that’s certainly my aim, but I’m not going to go there with too many hopes or dreams in my head, I’ll just go there prepared and do what I can."
