Team principal of Haas Guenther Steiner thinks that Ferrari has taken a huge step forward with their 2017 power unit from the spec that was used in 2016.

Ferrari is the name on everybody's lips as we look to the first Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne in two weeks. Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time of the test on Friday, a 1:18.634 on the ultra soft tyre.

Haas runs the Ferrari power unit as they head into their second year of competing in F1 and Steiner says that he noticed major leaps in efficiency throughout the test.

"I don't know in percentage, because I don't know Ferrari's aero figures, but our engine is the same," said Steiner to GPUpdate.net. "I think the engine has made a big step from last year, but Ferrari's car in general is very good. I would say the power unit, at the moment, is our smallest problem."

Haas driver Romain Grosjean also praised the work of Ferrari over the winter, and stated that Haas' supplement of Ferrari power is very important to the team.

"I'm not complaining about the Ferrari engine on my back," he said. "It's pretty good. It's a good step from last year. The driveability feels very nice.

"The partnership with Ferrari for us is key; we have a good engine, a good gearbox, good suspension, and so on, so it's a big help and has a big impact on our performance."
