Fernando Alonso says that he knew Ferrari would not become world champions in 2015 or 2016 and that's why he decided to take on a new challenge.

Alonso joined McLaren at the start of 2015 and had a horrid year, as the team finished second last in the constructor standings.

The Spaniard spent five years at McLaren but never won the championship. finishing second three times.

“I will always wish the best for Ferrari, in fact we now things have not reached even dream them., but I knew that in 2015 and 2016 Ferrari would not win. So I accepted the challenge of McLaren-Honda.”

“In the end the important thing is to feel valued by fans and the people of Formula 1, heads of teams and the drivers. The key to staying so long in the elite is being yourself and being very consistent,” added Alonso.
