Jolyon Palmer was left disappointed after a spin meant that he missed out on securing his first Formula One points.
The British former GP2 champion has endured a difficult maiden campaign so far but he was confident his Renault team had the pace to fight for points at this weekend's race.
The Horsham man looked set to finally finish in the points, before a spin at turn four ruined his chances.
"I’m gutted because it was there," he said. "Obviously it’s a disaster. It was the best drive of my career but then I spun and we didn’t get any points. It should have been the first points of my F1 career. Everything was perfect."
"It was completely in my grasp. We did a good strategy, a good pit stop, and the pace was good. I felt great in the car. But then I just lost it. I don’t know why," he added. "I wasn’t exactly hanging everything out, I was looking after the tyres with Nico Hulkenberg behind, but then for some reason I lost the car with a massive snap. I need to look at it now."
