Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he is surprised to be back in the championship fight after a tough start to 2016.
The former McLaren driver struggled a the start of the year, failing to win a race until the Monaco Grand Prix in May, a win that came two weeks after the famous collision with team mate Nico Rosberg at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton had all but written off his chances for this season, and has now conceded he's now surprised to be just one point off Rosberg.
"It's crazy to think that the 43-point deficit I had at the time, which seemed impossible - I'm only human so those days I feel like it seemed impossible - you've just got to keep going, as painful as it can be, as hard as it can be.
"Look where I am now, I'm one point behind in the championship. I'm even surprised. I'm like, 'if I had given up at one point'… it just shows you to never ever ever give up no matter what."
