Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg experienced a troubled start of the weekend with a sudden loss of power in his first run in free practice in Belgium. His team found a solution and the German went on to set the fastest time, for team mate Lewis Hamilton and last year's winner Daniel Ricciardo. Pastor Maldonado crashed his Lotus coming out of Turn 7.
