Vettel handed two penalty points following Hamilton incident

Sebastian Vettel has received two penalty points on his super license after his near coming together with Lewis Hamilton at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Vettel's win was stripped from him when the Stewards gave him a five-second time penalty after they deemed he re-joined the track unsafely while under pressure from Lewis Hamilton.

The Stewards noted that Vettel “car five left the track at turn three, rejoined the track at turn four in an unsafe manner and forced car 44 off track."

Speaking on the podium, Vettel said: "First of all, I really enjoyed the race, I enjoyed the crowd. Seeing them cheering me on at the hairpin, it was very intense. Lewis was a bit quicker throughout the race but we were able to stay ahead.

"I think you should ask the people what they think. We had a great show, there was good respect. Ask the people.

"The people shouldn't boo Lewis, he saw what was going on. I don't think there was any intention to be in harm's way. I had trouble to stay on track. The people should boo the funny decisions."

Vettel is now up to seven penalty points over a 12 month period.

Insult to the injury.
A lame decision.

I thought that failing to deliver a car to parc ferme means disqualification.

I like information and I didn't have that information and hence thought you could provide me with that information.
Can the moderators please provide this information? The article says, I think, that penalty of points was awarded for the incident and not for the reaction afterwards.

He's lucky he didn't get disqualified after that Oscar worthy performance. I don't know the rules exactly but I'm pretty sure you have to deliver the car after the race for FIA checks.

this is not good for f1. If I were with liberty I want a spectacle that make people want to watch. When the dominant team gets a very sketchy ruling its not good for the sport. Vettel did well to not get in the wall. When I raced the adage was when heading toward a car spinning was to head towards it and it will slide away from you. it was a very risky move by hamilton to try to beat him to the outside had he slowed and went underneath vettel he would have passed him.
