Horner: December deadline for 2021 regulations 'would be fine'

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says that signing off the 2021 regulations in December of this year would not cause any problems.

Earlier this week, Formula 1 met with teams to progress discussions over the 2021 rules, which are set to be overhauled in both the sporting and technical side of proceedings.

The talks were described as 'positive' by some team bosses, who say that the meeting was a good step forward in officially signing off the regulations.

Another meeting is scheduled before the end of June in which all decisions are set to be finalised and set in motion for the 2021 season.

There is a slight worry that confirming the new rules early will hand some teams an advantage to work on the new car designs. Horner added to this, saying that it would cost more money to confirm the regulations by mid-summer.

“There is an energy driving things forward at the moment and it is about time," Horner told Sky Sports F1."Hopefully during the next few weeks we can get results.

“It will be this year but there are so many factors to tidy up like income, costs, technical regulations.

“I actually think the technical regulations being released too soon is going to cost more money anyway so perhaps at the end of the year would be a better time to release the technical regulations.
