Williams' 2019 driver George Russell is likely to drive the FW41 at the post-season Abu Dhabi test, the team has stated. Russell will make his F1 debut next March in Melbourne for the Grove squad, but will get experience within the team before the year is out.

Teams use the test, which is hosted by Pirelli, to field young drivers and/or drivers that will be joining for the following season. It will mark the first time he has got behind the wheel of the Williams, having only yet driven its simulator.

Russell has been present in the paddock for most of the races this year with Mercedes, who manages his career.  Although Williams' two-day test line-up hasn't officially been confirmed, the team's chief technical officer Paddy Lowe says that he "almost certainly" will be taking part.

When asked how the Briton has integrated himself within the team since signing a deal, Lowe said: "Very well, yeah. He's done the last two races with us. He is very enthusiastic, he is learning a lot already and I think it will allow him to hit the ground in better conditions than otherwise.

"We haven't announced our line-up for the Abu Dhabi test, but almost certainly George will feature in that. Having done these two races he is in much better position to get the most out of his first sessions in the car."
