How the 2019 grid is shaping up

The pieces are starting to fall into place in terms of settling the line-ups for the 2019 season, as this week we have had two big announcements. Fernando Alonso first revealed that he would be leaving F1 after the current season, and on Thursday, McLaren confirmed that Carlos Sainz would be his replacement.

But there are still plenty of seats left to fill for the 2019 grid. Ferrari is yet to confirm its line-up for next year, with rumours swirling that Kimi Raikkonen is poised to sign a new two-year deal. Below, you can see a table of all the confirmed seats so far for the 2019 season.

  • In general three questions left:

    1. Given this points-license system, who is getting the STR seats?
    2. Williams needs an experienced driver for development or a driver who's commercially attractive; e.g. tied to money, or undiscovered market/region: who?
    3. Is Leclerc moving up, or staying put?

The answer to those three questions decide the 2019 field.

    Mercedes: Hamilton & Bottas
    Ferrari: Vettel & Raikkonen
    Red Bull: Verstappen & Gasly
    Renault: Ricciardo & Hulkenberg
    Haas: Magnussen & Grosjean/Leclerc/Perez?
Stroll Racing (Force India) - Stroll & Perez/Ocon?
    McLaren: Sainz & Ocon/Vandoorne/Norris?
    Toro Rosso: Ticktum & Hartley/Cassidy/Vandoorne?
    Sauber: Giovinazzi & Kubica/Ericsson/Perez?
    Williams: Sirotkin & Kubica/Grosjean/Ocon/Russell/Albon?
