Rosberg: Alonso has no hope in F1

2016 Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg says that Fernando Alonso has no hope of succeeding in F1 again, and is branching out to other series to fill that hole. Alonso has endured a turbulent three years at McLaren, running towards the rear of the field for much of that time.

McLaren ran with Honda power from 2015 to 2017, which had poor pace and unwelcome reliability. In 2017, Alonso contested the Indianapolis 500, and will race for Toyota this year in the World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

But Rosberg thinks that the decision to do these different series come as he has lost hope in F1: "He is doing races like the Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans because he has no hope in F1," the former Williams and Mercedes driver told F1 Racing.

"So he has to look at other things to satisfy his desire to win. Because winning the Formula 1 World Championship is not an option. His next big one challenge for him is to be the most versatile (driver) in the world. Will Fernando Alonso win a big prize in 2018? No.  Will he go on the podium? A third place, why not?"

  • He should aim for another Singapore victory. It's still possible with Vandoorne.
