Mallya: "We have freedom to take a new approach in the remaining races"

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya says that the team can approach the final two races of 2017 differently after the Silverstone-based squad wrapped up fourth place in the constructor's standings. Last time out in Mexico, Esteban Ocon's and Sergio Perez's fifth and seventh place was enough to consolidate fourth in the standings.

It is the second consecutive year that Force India have ended the season in fourth place. In 2016, the team finished with 173 points - a tally they surpassed in Mexico, as they now rest with 175 points.

"To have confirmed fourth place in the constructors’ championship for the second consecutive year is a wonderful achievement," Mallya said. "I’m incredibly proud of the entire team and delighted we have done so with two races in hand. It’s already been our strongest season yet in terms of points scored and we are just 25 shy of the 200 points mark. It shows how consistent we have been all year."

Ocon believes that the Interlagos Circuit will allow Force India to add even more points to its current figure. However, he pointed out that last year's washed out event was an example of how unpredictable the weekend can be.

"As we saw last year, the weather conditions can be very unpredictable. I enjoyed driving in the wet last year and would be happy if it rains again. Whether it’s wet or dry, we will be strong because the car is performing really well and it’s a good chance to score some more points."
