Former Grand Prix driver Mika Salo believes that Ferrari will soon announce Sebastian Vettel, after the Maranello squad confirmed Kimi Raikkonen. On Tuesday, it was made official that the Finn would remain at Ferrari for at least one more season.
Vettel's contract with Ferrari runs out at the end of the year as the German signed a three-year deal in 2015. It is expected that the team will decide to confirm Vettel on a new deal at the Italian Grand Prix which takes place in just over two weeks.
"This was the expected news," Salo said of the Raikkonen deal to the Finnish broadcaster MTV . "Ferrari had no better option. And Kimi would not have continued if he doesn't believe his pace is still there. There's not really any other place for Vettel. And I believe Raikkonen staying was one of Vettel's demands. They are a good pair," he added.
Salo also said that he hopes Raikkonen will be stronger in 2018: "I hope he is able to be right there from the beginning of the season," he said. "For some reason, the Ferrari cars have not been great for Kimi from the very start of a season."
