Hulkenberg not bothered by Halo censorship

Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg says that he is relaxed over being edited out of a recent F1 video. On the build-up to the Hungary Grand Prix, the official F1 youtube channel released a highlights video of the Thursday press conference in Budapest.

A hot topic in the press room was the introduction of the Halo, which drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso support. However, Hulkenberg spoke out against it in the conference but in the highlights reel, his negative comments were edited out.

A spokesperson from Formula One Management claimed that it was an editorial decision, to which Hulkenberg stated: "I'm quite relaxed about it. There's no bad blood. It's just like it is in life: opinions differ."

"I was never a big supporter of Halo or additional head protection," he continued. "It will protect against the one in a million freak accident, but the tethers that keep the tyres on get better every year so I'm not sure this additional protection is necessary and we're compromising the looks quite a lot."

In many ways F1 is a lot like WWE. Rules are changed on the fly during the championship, no consistency in the rulings. And Bernie as a F1 version of the Mr McMahon character.
Now we're all just eagerly awaiting the F1 brand split...

Censoring? That I think is a stupid move. Trust and credibility are easily lost and difficult to gained/build up. And who the hell do they think they are fooling anyway? Hints on moving this sport into scripted entertainment like WWE. I am sure there is an audience for that...

    No whining this time.
Maybe he has calmed down by now.

  • "the tethers that keep the tyres on get better every year so I'm not sure this additional protection is necessary and we're compromising the looks quite a lot." But they do still come loose at times. We've seen that as late as this season.
