No Red Bull miracle in Monaco according to Newey

Chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing Adrian Newey has squashed hype surrounding the energy drink team's chance of claiming a memorable victory at Monaco this weekend. The thoughts of the 2016 incident are still fresh in the minds of the Milton Keynes outfit.

Daniel Ricciardo placed his car on pole position last year and looked set for the win until a tyre change mishap caused the team to lose track position to eventual winner Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull's 2017 season hasn't gone to plan so far as the RB13, which was predicted to give the closest challenge to Mercedes, seems further behind than ever and well behind Ferrari who they developed past in 2016.

"Last year we had a good chassis," Red Bull's part-time technical boss Newey told Brazil's Globo, "so, at Monaco, where you rely less on the engine, we could shine.

"But this year we do not have the best chassis, so we will not have the same opportunity as last year," he added. "I think we have to improve between now and Singapore and use that as our next chance," said Newey.
