Ricciardo says having Adrian Newey doesn't automatically mean success

Daniel Ricciardo that despite having the expertise of Adrian Newey in their team, that does not automatically mean they can emerge as favourites for a season.

Before the 2017 season got underway, many predicted that Red Bull would be the team to challenge Mercedes, due to Adrian Newey and his knowledge in the field of aerodynamics.

However, the energy drinks team have fallen to become the clear third best team behind Ferrari and Mercedes, who look very closely matched at the front of the field: "Adrian Newey is certainly a great name, but Ferrari, Mercedes, the top teams all have great departments too," he said in Bahrain.

Ricciardo said Red Bull has plenty of catching up to do, but backed the team to be able to strongly develop the 2017 car: "We have a great capacity for development and it's in that area that we were particularly good last year."
