Vettel focusing on Ferrari future, not Mercedes seat

Sebastian Vettel has played down the rumours that he could be heading to Mercedes for the 2018 season. Despite acquiring a new driver in Valtteri Bottas for this year, the Silver Arrow's have made no secret in the fact that they are keeping all their options open for 2018.

Bottas joins Mercedes, replacing the retired Nico Rosberg who pulled the curtain on his career days after winning the championship in Abu Dhabi last November. After Bottas was signed, it was interesting to note it was only on a one-year deal.

Mercedes have since revealed they are keeping all their options available for 2018, wth some suggestions being signing Sebastian Vettel or Fernando Alonso, who boast six world championships between them.

However, Vettel has hushed such rumours: "I understand if from the outsider's perspective. But at the moment, my only goal is to keep moving forwards with Ferrari, and I will not be distracted from that. To succeed, every single step must be taken. There is no shortcut to success," Vettel insisted.

Vettel enters 2017 as his third year with Ferrari, and has so far claimed three victories, with all coming during his maiden season in 2015. F1 pundit Marc Surer says: "If his third year at Ferrari doesn't lead to success, he is on the market."

What is he supposed to say? I mean really?
You better believe he'll leave all his options open, because above all else, he's a competitor.
I personally hope he stays at Ferrari, but if the Mercedes dominance continues I wouldn't blame him if he left.
