Teams and drivers can release testing footage

Across the internet, an increasing amount of new video footage from the first pre-season test is emerging now that F1's teams and drivers have been permitted to release it - having previously been warned not to.

Previous seasons have seen them confronted by the commercial rights holder, as contractual issues have arisen with broadcasters who possessed exclusive rights to F1 coverage in their own individual territories. Since Bernie Ecclestone's departure as ringmaster of the sport, however, new owners Liberty Media have seemingly ensured that the sharing of footage is no longer a problem, thereby allowing the teams to post short videos onto their social media accounts.

Among the drivers, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was quick to take advantage of this, tweeting that he would be posting content from within his car. "Hey guys. I'm about to get on the car. Through practice I'll be live on Instagram from the cockpit to give you something new, so tune in," he wrote.

Renault posted a video of its R.S.17 leaving the garage at the very start of running in Barcelona, and its fellow teams have also been producing pit lane interviews and footage of practice pitstops at the track. Teams and drivers are currently only allowed to release such media for the first four days of testing, but Liberty will supposedly produce long-term guidelines for the future, dictating what can be captured and what can be done with it.
