Max Verstappen tops record year for overtakes

Max Verstappen completed more overtaking moves than any other driver in 2016.

Verstappen's tally of 78 manoeuvres is a record, although helped in part by the fact that 2016 was the longest season in Formula One history.

This season also saw more overtaking moves completed throughout the whole field than any other season since records began in 1983.

There were 866 overtaking moves in 2016, with Red Bull Racing completing the most with 136 - 61 coming from Daniel Ricciardo, 60 from Verstappen, and 15 from Daniil Kvyat. The latter two switched teams prior to May's Spanish Grand Prix, with Verstappen leaving Toro Rosso for Red Bull.

World champions Mercedes were only passed seven times all season
