McLaren have admitted that talks did take place with Apple over a potential takeover.
The American tech giant was reported back in September to be in discussions to buy out McLaren but at the time they denied any such negotiation.
McLaren Automotive chief executive Mike Flewitt has since confirmed that the talks took place.
"They visited. We talked," he told Reuters We talked about what they did. We talked about what we did. They toured. It never matured into a definitive proposition."
Apple were said to be working on their own electric car project but this year a number of key staff have left the project. A potential McLaren buyout would have been key to them furthering their automotive ambitions.
