Bernie Ecclestone refusing to confirm F1 stay

Bernie Ecclestone has refused to confirm that he will be staying on in his role as chief executive of Formula One.

The sport was recently sold to Liberty media Group and Ecclestone was expected to remain, but observers noted obvious tension between Ecclestone and new chairman Chase Carey in Singapore.

"Let's see. We'll see," Ecclestone answered when asked if he would be remaining for the mooted three years.

Ecclestone has famously been branded as a dictator during his time at the helm of Formula One and the 85-year-old hit back at suggestions he would now have to work alongside Carey.

"The only thing I have to do is die and pay my tax," he said. "Short of that I don't have to do anything."

Some reports have suggested that the 21st Century Fox executive Carey would serve in an apprentice-like role to Ecclestone before assuming control in three years. However, when speaking to F1's official website, Carey denied the notion.

"I am a bit too old to be an apprentice," he insisted, saying he could deal with divisive figures such as Ecclestone.

"Certainly Hollywood is good training for dealing with unique personalities.

Toto Wolff rules himself out

One man linked with Ecclestone's chief exuecutive position is Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

However, the Austrian has firmly ruled himself out of the running, as did collegue and compatriot Niki Lauda previously.

"I will not do it," he is quoted by Osterreich newspaper. "We both work together here and we want to keep working together here."
