Italian Grand Prix's Pole Sitter Lewis Hamilton has revealed that his flat spotted tyres which he will start the race on, will not cause him any issues.
During Saturday's Qualifying, the tyres in which any driver uses to set his/hers fastest time during Q2, will mean that they will start on those tyres.
On his fastest lap, Hamilton locked-up his tyres whilst braking for Turn One. Broadcasters immediately commented on the fact that he had flatspotted one his front tyres. And because that set will be his starting tyre for today's race, then it could lead him to having a difficult first stint.
Hamilton was asked about this flat spot and how it could impact his race today. The Championship Leader felt that lockup was not affect anything with today's race and that it has not made any difference to how the car behaves.
"I didn’t really damage the tyres, I just had a small lock-up into Turn One.The flat spot is minimal; you can’t really feel it, so I don’t think it will be a problem,"
Coincidentally, Hamilton did go on the radio to the team and asked if he could do another lap because of the flat spotted tyres. Unfortunately the Brit could not beat his time, but if he did, then he would have had a different set of tyres.
If the Mercedes feel that the tyres are dangerous to race on, then they can apply to the FIA and ask for them to be change to a set that has done similar amount of laps on.
