Pierre Gasly has said he knows the pressure he is under as he seeks to graduate to F1 next season.
The Frenchman, who lies second in the GP2 standings is part of Red Bull's Junior Team and has carried out testing for Red Bull Racing this year. He has been linked with a move to Toro Rosso next year, but knows he has to impress many within Red Bull, including the company's motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko if he is to make the step up.
"I know Helmut is watching all of the GP2 races, he knows when I do well and he knows when I do some mistakes – he's watching everything," Gasly told GPUpdate. "When I came back from the podium [in Germany] I saw the Red Bull mechanics and they said, 'Great race, it was really good to watch', so I know they are watching – it's quite easy, we're on the same track."
After a winless campaign last season, Gasly won in both Britain and Hungary last month, sending him towards the top of the GP2 standing season that has seen nine winners from 14 races. He now says that consistency will be key to winning the championship this year.
"It was really mixed up at the beginning which made it interesting, I guess, but from our point of view you want to score and have a bit of margin," he said. "It's what we tried to aim for at the last couple of races, to be really consistently in the points – if you want to win the championship, that's how it works."
