Tyre supplier Pirelli is pleased with testing for the wider tires for next season which began this week.
Ferrari tested with the Italian tire manufacturer at Fiorano and Red Bull Racing ran on behalf of Pirelli at Mugello towards the end of the week. A total of 339 laps were completed on the new tires. The question is only whether the data collected is representative.

"We are pleased that the work finally started with the wider tires for 2017, we still have much work to do, this was just an introduction to the new tires it was a first step of many steps," Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery told Autosport. "The challenge now is to understand how close these cars come close to what we can expect next year."
"The teams had to follow certain guidelines when converting their cars from 2015. It's not a given that they produce the amount of downforce that the cars will generate next season. That has a big impact on the performance of the tires and we should therefore thoroughly analyse. We will compare the data with those of the simulations to see where we stand."
