McLaren launches Work Inspiration career management skills programme

McLaren have launched a new initiative aimed at improving the career prospects of disadvantaged young people.

The company will select a group of students from schools with a significant pupil premium, and they will attend a half-day work inspiration programme at the McLaren Technology Centre in October.

The scheme will provide the students with practical career support and advice, as well as giving them an insight into what it is like to work for McLaren.

Patrick Bermingham, HR director at McLaren Technology Group said: "We want to engage with local school leavers to provide them with a memorable experience at McLaren that helps improve their chances in a competitive job market."

"By providing hands-on learning that focuses on communication skills, team working and self-confidence in the workplace – skills we all value highly at McLaren – students will be able to more easily demonstrate their strengths to potential employers, wherever their ambitions lie."

"McLaren’s Work Inspiration programme bridges the gap between work experience and what happens after school, supports our ongoing commitment to our local schools and communities, and helps to develop the next generation of talent upon which businesses like ours rely."

"Work Inspiration also provides personal development opportunities for many of our own people who are not only passionate advocates for the work they do, but are also testimony to the breadth of technical skills and behaviours that are needed to succeed."

The day will include practical tasks to test students' communication skills and social confidence in a formal business dining environment courtesy of McLaren’s own catering company Absolute Taste.

McLaren also say that they will contribute towards students' travel costs to that those who will benefit from the programme are able to take part.
